Special Notes:
+ Wild Evergreen Huckleberry does not transplant well. (NOTE: The Native Plant Salvage group has techniques for successfully transplanting)
+ Berries are edible, tedious to pick, but delicious, usually small purplish-black but sometimes larger and bluer

More Information:
* Native Plants PWN – Evergreen Huckleberry, Vaccinium ovatum
* Found on the West Side of the Cascade Mountains from BC to CA
* Reaches 3-6 ft in the sun, and 12+ feet or more in the shade
* Common in second growth forests, especially along edges and openings

~ There are 450 species Vaccinium worldwide, 40 in North America, and 15 in the Pacific Northwest
~ The genus Vaccinium includes blueberries, huckleberries, cranberries, lingonberries …


From Wild Thyme

This specimen was inherited from the Wild Thyme Tree Farm in the Summer of 2021. There were five planted throughout the Douglas Fir grove and only one survived.
